Is everyone eligible for an updated COVID-19 vaccine?
Everyone ages 6 months and older should receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Children ages 6 months through 4 years should complete a multi-dose initial series that includes at least 1 dose of the updated vaccine.
People who are immunocompromised are up to date if they have received a 3-dose initial series that includes at least 1 updated dose and can stay up to date with 1 or more additional updated doses.
What is Novavax? How is it different from other COVID-19 vaccines?
Novavax is a 2-dose series of COVID-19 vaccine authorized by the FDA for people ages 12+ (primary series) and 18+ (single booster dose). The ingredients in Novavax are protein-based like the flu vaccine, while both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are mRNA based. Learn more about the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.
NOTE: All vaccines are highly effective in preventing serious complications and hospitalization from COVID-19.
Is the COVID-19 vaccine still free?
Federal emergency funding for COVID-19 has ended, but nearly all insurance plans cover the cost of any CDC-recommended vaccine.
If you don’t have insurance or your plan doesn’t cover routine vaccinations, select “No” when asked “Does the patient have insurance” while making an appointment. My Turn will then only list locations that offer COVID-19 vaccines at no cost for the uninsured. If you’re searching for a walk-in location, look for clinics that have a “Serves uninsured” tag.
I’ve already had COVID-19. Should I get a COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes. You should get a COVID-19 vaccine even if you already had COVID-19. People who get vaccinated after recovering from COVID-19 are less likely to get COVID-19 again than those who do not get vaccinated.
What if my child has a birthday coming up? Which age should I use when scheduling their appointment?
You should enter the age your child will be on the day of the appointment. The only exception is for children who will turn age 5 between doses of a Pfizer primary series. Children in this category are eligible for either the Pfizer 3-dose series (ages 6mo-4yr) or the Pfizer 2-dose series (ages 5-11) but must complete whichever series they start.
Should I get vaccinated if I'm pregnant now or could become pregnant in the future?
COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy is safe, effective and recommended by the CDC. There is currently no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine causes fertility problems in women or men. Learn more. If you have concerns about getting the COVID-19 vaccine, talk to your healthcare provider to learn the facts.
Where can I get tested for COVID-19? Are treatments available if I test positive?
You can talk to your healthcare provider or local health department about getting tested for COVID-19 or use My Turn to find a testing site.
Some locations that test for COVID-19 can also prescribe medication to people who test positive. (These are listed as test & treat locations.) If you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms, don’t wait to get tested. The sooner you begin treatment, the more effective it will be.
You should have received a COVID-19 vaccination card at your vaccine appointment that documents the vaccine brand you were given and the date it was administered. To get a link to a QR code and digital copy of your COVID-19 vaccination record, go to: myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
NOTE: If you already have the QR code for your digital vaccine record, and then get an additional or booster dose, that dose is not automatically added to your record. You’ll need to go back to myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov to get a new QR code. We recommend waiting up to 14 days before requesting a new code.
Do I need to be present for my minor’s appointment?

Do I have to be a California resident to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine on My Turn?
No. Scheduling or finding an appointment on My Turn and receiving a COVID-19 vaccine is not based on residency or immigration status.
If I received a COVID-19 vaccine in another country, am I eligible to receive one in the US?
Yes, but eligibility depends on which COVID-19 vaccine you received and how many required doses you completed.
After your vaccine you may be monitored on-site for at least 15 minutes. You’ll receive a vaccination card with the date you received your vaccine and the date of your next appointment, if one is needed. Remember to bring your vaccination card to all future appointments.
